If you haven't yet submitted your self-assessment tax return to HMRC, there’s not much time left.

All self-assessment returns are due to be submitted to HMRC by 31st January 2026 at the latest, and tax is due to be paid by the same date.

If the return is late then it can lead to an immediate £100 fine! It’s best to avoid this altogether and make sure your returns are completed and submitted as soon as possible.

If you pay your tax liability late, HMRC may also charge interest which can build up quickly.
