Friday's Fortnightly Tax Tip

You can now apply to Companies House to remove your home address from the historical record of registered office addresses!

If you have moved your registered office address to a business address from your personal address, you are now able to remove the record of your home address.

How can you do this?

Step One: Ensure that your current registered office address is not the address you wish to be removed from the record.

If it is, you can move this to another location such as a facility you operate from.

Alternatively, if there is nowhere you can move this address you can use a third party registered office address such as ours! Please follow the link here to find out about our service or contact us about setting this up.

If the company is dissolved, you must wait 6 months before applying to remove an address used as a registered office.

Step Two: Search Companies House here to check which document you are applying to be removed before you apply.

Step Three: You must fill out the SR01 Application under section 1088 the link is here.

This must be submitted by one of the following,

Company officer.
Person of significant control (PSC)
Subscriber or member of a company’s limited liability partnership.
Officer or permanent representative of an overseas company.
Person authorised to accept services from an overseas company.

You will also have to give an alternative address if you are a serving officer, such as a:

Director,
Secretary,
Person of significant control (PSC),
LLP member

Although, if one of the following is true, they can hide this address without an alternative:

You’re no longer an officer,
The company has been dissolved,
It was previously used as the company’s registered office.

Step Four: You must be prepared to pay the £30 per address you wish to remove from the register. The form has full instructions on how to send your SR01 application and how to pay the fee. They will reject your application if you do not pay the correct fee.

Step Five: Once you have sent in your application, they will process it and send you a notice with their decision.
From Spring/Summer of 2025, you will also be able to apply to suppress the following information from historical documents too.

Residential addresses in most instances when shown elsewhere on the register

Day of birth for documents registered before the 10th of October 2015. (Since that date only month and year have been publicly displayed)

Signatures

Business Occupation

You can also remove the following information if you are at personal risk of physical harm or violence due to your information being on the Companies House public register. This information includes

Name (or previous names)

Sensitive addresses where public disclosure puts its residents at risk.

And in the most serious cases, all other information, such as, service address and partial date of birth.
